Nicholas Danks


Nicholas Danks, Organist, was born in Harrow, Middlesex in 1974 into a family of professional musicians. He began playing the piano at the age of four, later taking up the organ and cello. In 1993 Nicholas won an organ scholarship and a place to read music at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.

On graduating in 1996 he became Assistant Organist at St Martins-in-the-Fields, beginning an association of 12 years with the church. In 2001 Nicholas was promoted to the position of Director of Music at St Martin's. In this role he assumed responsibility for all aspects of sacred music of the church, directing the Choir and Choral Scholars of St Martin's for many BBC broadcasts and recordings.

In September 2008 Nicholas left St Martin's to pursue a freelance musical career, including the part-time post of Director of music at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, looking after all aspects of practical music-making in the college

In addition he teaches for the University's Music Faculty and is also Acting Director of Stuidies in Music in Corpus.

Nicholas lives in North Cornwall with his wife, Caroline, where he runs a local community choir, the Crackington Choristers, plays for several local churches and teaches singing and organ, but also tries to find time to learn to surf.

Nicholas has been Assistant Director of the St Paul's Knightsbridge Festival Choir since 2000.
